Description

Ski the iconic Vallée Blanche in the Mont-Blanc massif with an IFMGA Mountain Guide. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Chamonix Aiguilles, Mont Blanc, and Chamonix 2800 meters below. Meet your guide at the Aiguille du Midi téléphérique and receive the necessary safety equipment. We take the téléphérique to 3842 meters and enjoy 360° views of the Chamonix Aiguilles, Mont Blanc, and Chamonix 2800 meters below. After putting on your crampons, harnesses, and attaching your skis to your rucksacks, take the famous Midi Arête to where you put on your skis. The ridge can be intimidating but you will be roped up to the guide and during the ski season there is a comfortable track cut into the snow to help you make your way down. With skis on your feet, the guide will explain procedures for skiing on glaciated terrain so as to ensure the safety of the group. The actual itinerary from the Aiguille du Midi down to the Géant icefall will depend on a number of factors including the weather, snow quality, snow cover, and ski ability of the group. Once through the Géant icefall, cross the Salle à Manger and ski mellow slopes down towards Montenvers. With the difficulties behind you, stop for a snack at the junction of the Mer de Glace and the Leschaux glaciers and admire the surrounding peaks now up to 2000 meters above you. Once at the glacier snout, have a couple of options. In good conditions, with snow all the way to the valley floor, bootpack up to Les Mottets and ski down the forest track back to Chamonix. If this is not possible, make your way up to the Montenvers station and take the historic train back down to the valley floor.

Includes

Safety equipment (crampons, harness, avalanche transceiver)

Important Information

  • Participants should have prior skiing experience. The descent is subject to weather and snow conditions. Participants must be comfortable with skiing on ungroomed terrain. If the guide decides that either your ski level and/or the weather/conditions on the itinerary do not allow a safe descent then we will take the ski bus to another part of the Chamonix valley for some equally exciting off-piste descents (Les Grands-Montets for example). Detailed list of ski equipment you should have or hire locally:
  • Skis
  • Ski boots
  • Ski poles
  • Ski Helmet
  • Velcro or rubber ski strap
